Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army after he quickly realized he was not yet ready for college. He served for three years in Pershing, the only nuclear missile unit in the U.S. Army. Mike’s collection of stories–ranging from funny to sad–provides insight into what it was like to serve his country daily during the height of the Cold War.

A Virtual Tour: The African American Military History Museum, Hattiesburg, MS (Online)

The African American Military History Museum is dedicated to preserving the Historic USO Club and the collections within, providing awareness and knowledge of African American experiences and contributions in the United States Armed Forces. Opened in 1942, in the segregated army of World War II, the USO Club served as a home away from home for African American soldiers stationed at Camp Shelby, MS. Join us for a recorded presentation followed by discussion.
